At 7 a.m. Thursday there was .21 inch of precipitation, (approx. 2” of snow). That makes a total of 7" of snow at that time and it continued to snow. The snow is beautiful to watch and the kids are having a great time in it, but it certainly paralyzes the community events. Everything looks so clean and pretty when it is covered by snow. The Open House Sat. at the Tryon Federal Savings office in Columbus has been postponed to the following Saturday (Jan. 22nd) A Florida-bound jetliner roared from a snowy takeoff in Washington, D. C. Wednesday and crashed into a Potamac River bridge, smashing automobiles and plunged beneath the icy water. More than 70 people, including at least six motorists were believed to be killed, but the count could not be verified. There were 16 survivors. It was the first fatal crash of an American commercial airliner in more than two years. Landrum Lions Meet Tuesday The Landrum Lions Club will have a tour of Lion Mike Dale’s chiropractic clinic at Spartanburg. Members will meet at the Landrum Civic Center at 7 p.m. for carpooling to the clinic for food and tour. Polk Commissioners Meet Monday The Polk County Commission ers will meet Monday at7 p.m. at the Tryon Town Hall. A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Michael G. Greene of Hendersonville are parents of a daughter, Amy Elizabeth, born January 11, at Margaret R. Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hadley of Hendersonville, and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Greene of Mills River. Mrs. Greene is a speech therapist with the Polk County Schools. Frank Basler Frank Basler, Tryon, recently accepted the position of 1982 Fund Drive for the Polk County Heart Association. His selection was announced by C. Alan Pruette, president of the local Heart Association. Mr. Basler served as 1977-79 President of the Polk County Heart Association and he helped revive the Association in 1977 shortly after locating in Tryon from Illinois. The Polk County Heart Association received a 1978 citation for producing the largest per capita contribution of all counties in N. C. Polk County has continued to uphold this record. Mr. Basler is a deacon of the Congregational Church, a member of the Tryon Rotary Club, member of the Tryon Men’s Garden Club and Tryon Country . Craigle of Aurora, Ill. have moved to the Belvedere Apartments on Grady Ave. Both Mr. and Mrs. Craigle are natives of Indiana. Mr. Craigle is from Indianapolis and Mrs. Craigle, the former Ann Stephens, from Evansville. They both attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. Mr. Craigle is a Pharmaceutical salesman with Mead Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Craigle have one son, Bill, III who is with Cable TV in Aurora. They heard of Tryon through friends. Mrs. Craigle enjoys golf and crafts. Mr. Craigle enjoys golf, golf and golf. They are Presbyterians. McNey-Hill Mr. and Mrs. James T. F. McNey of Tryon announce the engagement of their daughter Florence Lynn and John Slater Hill, Jr. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Hill of Simsbury, Connecticut. Florence, a senior at Furman University, has just returned from a four-month university exchange program in Osaka, Japan. John, a 1980 graduate of Furman, is a sales representative in the Kansas City area for the Dunlop Sports Company. An August 21, wedding is planned.
